Socially Curious Curriculum - Kamiak High School
To teach social thinking to high functioning Autistic students, and to increase communication skills for social exchanges.
 
Museum of Glass Field Trip - Voyager Middle School
Two art classes will be introduced to the history, physics, chemistry, and process of glassmaking through an interactive tour of the Tacoma Museum of Glass.  Three 30-minute artist-led tours and transportation will enable students to meet and Q&A with working professionals; glass is currently part of the curriculum.
 
Book It All Over - Kamiak High School
The Kamiak High School drama dept would like to continue their partnership with the Book-It Repertory Theatre. The performance class rewrites and performs a children’s story (The Sneetches and Other Stories by Dr. Seuss) at 6 or more elementary schools in the Mukilteo School District. The Book-It project encourages all ages to read and to use their imaginations as they read.
28 high school actors are involved and 1200+ audience members.
 
Science Books - Discovery Elementary School
A special collection of 24 books and AR tests will be purchased and collected in the library to enrich the 5th grade science curriculum. The goal is to have 5th grade students read, discuss and recall science content and concepts taught in earlier grades in preparation for the annual state assessment in science at the fifth grade level.
IslandWood Environment Science Center - Horizion Elementary School
The team plans to fundraise to take all 5th graders to an environmental science center on Bainbridge Island.  Students pay $100 each, and other money is raised through donations and fundraisers.  The 5th graders went last year and found this overnight enrichment camp to be educationally and socially enriching.
 
Edmonds Beach Field Trip - Fairmount Elementary School
To enrich the science, community, and writing experiences, the team plans to utilize the Edmonds Beach naturalist program to explore tide pools and encourage the political process through persuasive writing to save the program.  The naturalist will visit the classroom and lead tours of the tide pools that are studied as an ecosystem, whose study relates directly to many of the science and writing EALRs.
German Language Enrichment - Kamiak High School
Funds to purchase three annual German World magazine subscriptions to learn about current affairs and culture and to buy 20 Luek Boards.  A Luek board is a self-checking activity for accuracy in reading and writing.  All materials are reusable and can be adapted to current classroom content.
 
Jolene, the Dangerous Decibel Mannequin - Mukilteo Elementary, Discovery Elementary & Olivia Park Elementary School's
The school nurse proposes building an educational mannequin to teach the public about the damage loud music can do.  Jolene is designed with a mannequin frame, sound level meters, display board, ping pong balls, tuning forks, and current, up-to-date, looks.  The program was piloted in Oregon, and the applicant has taken classes to teach hearing loss prevention to the community.  She plans to get older students from Mariner or Sno-Isle to assist in assembly. This mannequin can be used for many years in health classes at both the elementary and secondary levels.
Thunder Cave Text Books - Voyager Middle School
Voyager currently has 22 copies of the book Thunder Cave to teach students about Africa, integrating social studies (Eastern Hemisphere) and literacy instruction. The students were introduced to this novel just this year and love it, evidenced by their choice of topics for required research projects. They plan to incorporate a service project to benefit an African country and possibly engage in a cross-district service project with KHS or HPMS.
 
Xylophones & Metallophones Rolling Carts - Columbia Elementary School
Current rolling carts on which these instruments are stored are in disrepair and becoming unsafe for students. The school stage is the music room and requires that the classroom be mobile. This teacher has a goal of replacing all nine carts with new rolling carts that can be easily repaired with common nuts and bolts.
 
Mathematical Data and Storage Files & Bins - Mukilteo Elementary School
The Summit team has developed a math program that focuses on Addend, Sum, Factor, and Product Relationships enabling students to memorize and utilize their facts in both computation and in real world applications. Part of this student-led program involves use of daily practice and data tracking. They are requesting a grant to assist them in obtaining data and storage files and bins for students’ mathematical storage and use.
Leader in Me Classroom Kit to support 7 Habits of Happy Kids -
Picnic Point Elementary School
The Leader in Me Classroom Kit will enhance current school wide curriculum of 7 Habits for Happy Kids by providing additional avenues of teaching and reinforcing habits in the classroom. Students explore and become aware of skills and strategies for self management, readiness for learning and goal setting helping students to make gains academically, on the playground, in their outside activities and at home.
 
Leader in Me Classroom Kit to support 7 Habits of Happy Kids -
Picnic Point Elementary School
The Leader in Me Classroom Kit will enhance current school wide curriculum of 7 Habits for Happy Kids by providing additional avenues of teaching and reinforcing habits in the classroom. Students explore and become aware of skills and strategies for self management, readiness for learning and goal setting helping students to make gains academically, on the playground, in their outside activities and at home. This teacher has 24 students in her classroom and will collaborate with her grade level team to utilize the kit across the grade level. If others in the building are selected for this same grant they will collaborate to enhance the exposure of the program throughout the school.
Project Linus Blankets - Kamiak High School
Project Linus is a program that provides homemade blankets to children who are seriously ill, traumatized or otherwise in need. Many of the children receiving these blankets are from area schools. This project helps teach the Independent Living students to problem solve, read directions, measure, work as a team and serve the community. 
 
7 Habits of Happy Kids & Leader In Me Classroom Teacher Kit -
Serene Lake Elementary School
This teacher would like to incorporate the curriculum of the 7 Habits of Happy Kids into her classroom by having age appropriate lessons to teach vocabulary and share literature that explains the 7 Habits. She also plans to hold a show case event in the spring for families where students express their leadership abilities to the public.
 
Promethian ActiveSlate - Odyssey Elementary School
This music specialist currently uses a Promethian Activeboard in her music classes and has seen student involvement increase and creativity challenged in Active Inspire lessons in addition to Flipchart lessons. Because the location of the music class is sometimes subject to change (slated to move next September) and moving the Activeboard year after year is prohibitive and hard on the equipment this teacher would like to purchase the ActiveSlate which allows her to have the technology with her wherever the music class is located.
Ukuleles - Voyager Middle School
This teacher would like to purchase ukuleles for the 6th grade general music class to bring the class in line with the course catalogue description -“Explore the world of music”.  These would help her run an engaging and stimulating 6th grade music class. The 6th grade equipment she has now is very old music textbooks and 19 electric keyboards, many of which are cracked or broken. Some of her curriculum objectives are to teach basic music theory, develop playing techniques, rehearsal and performance etiquette, tuning of the instrument, strum basic chords to the beat of music and play songs of varying styles and from different cultures. This year 40 students will be impacted but the teacher feels this will increase due to the addition of these instruments into the program.
 
Social Thinking Mentor Training Program - Olympic View Middle School
This teacher has been accepted into the Social Thinking Mentor Training Program that will better equip her to provide social, academic and behavioral support to the students on the autism spectrum. This training will also help her to teach the general student population to understand the uniqueness of the Connection students as well as provide training to the staff on skills and strategies to best serve these students in a general education environment.
